Website Scroll Video vs Screen Studio

Screen Studio is a polished screen recorder for macOS. Website Scroll Video renders a page from its URL. They overlap on one job, showing a website, and do it in opposite ways.

The short answer

Screen Studio records your Mac’s screen and then makes it look produced, with automatic zoom on clicks, a smoothed cursor and backgrounds; it is the better choice for product demos with clicks and narration. Website Scroll Video never records a screen: it opens a public page on its servers and calculates the scroll, so the motion is perfectly even, pop-ups are removed and it works from any device. For showing a website itself, top to bottom, the renderer is faster; for showing an app being used, the recorder is.

Which one fits

Both are good at something. This is when each is the better choice.

SChoose Screen Studio if

  • The video shows a product being used: clicks, typing, flows.
  • You want to narrate, or appear on camera.
  • The page is private, local or behind a login.
  • You are on a Mac and want one tool for every kind of recording.

Choose Website Scroll Video if

  • The video is the website itself, scrolled top to bottom.
  • You want the scroll perfectly even, with pauses where you choose.
  • You need the phone layout without emulating it.
  • You are on Windows, Linux, a tablet or a phone, or want no subscription.

Recording against rendering

Screen Studio captures your screen with Apple’s ScreenCaptureKit and records the mouse separately, so after recording it can smooth the cursor path, change its size and style, add click ripples, and zoom in on the moments that matter. The result looks edited without you editing it. Export is MP4 at 720p, 1080p or 4K up to 60 fps, a GIF, or a share link.

Website Scroll Video never sees your screen. It opens the page in a browser on its servers at desktop, tablet or phone width, removes cookie banners and chat widgets, reads the page at double density, and then calculates where the page sits on every frame. You choose the length, the curve, the pauses and the hovers before anything is rendered.

The scroll is the difference

Screen Studio smooths the cursor, not the page. When you scroll a long website, the page moves exactly as your wheel or trackpad moved it, notches and momentum included, and the zoom has nothing to latch on to in a pure scroll. That is the one part of a website video a recorder cannot fix after the fact.

A renderer starts from the other end: the motion is the thing it calculates. The page moves along Smooth, Glide, Linear or Pulse at a locked frame rate, stops on up to 6 sections, and a cursor travels to the elements you pick so their hover effects play. More on this in why scroll recordings stutter.

Using both

  • Render the scroll through the homepage with Website Scroll Video, record the sign-up flow in Screen Studio, and cut them together.
  • Use a rendered 9:16 scroll of the mobile site for social, and a Screen Studio walkthrough with narration for YouTube.

Screen Studio is a subscription; Website Scroll Video is pay as you go, starting with 51 free credits and packs from $5 that never expire.

    Questions, answered

What people ask when choosing between Website Scroll Video and Screen Studio.

    Contact
Does Screen Studio work on Windows?

Its site says it currently supports macOS only. Website Scroll Video runs in any modern browser, on any operating system, because the capture happens on its servers.

Can Screen Studio auto-scroll a website?

Its site describes automatic zoom and cursor smoothing, but not automated scrolling. You scroll the page yourself while recording, or run a script to do it.

Which is better for a portfolio website video?

For a page shown top to bottom, a renderer gives an even scroll with pauses and a frame in one step. For a case study that shows an app being used, a recorder like Screen Studio fits better.
